A Bit About Me

I situate myself in the context of being queer therapist of color, who understands the importance of identity, family, and relationships, and the distress that can occur when these things are conflicting. I want to be the person to help you walk through the distress.

I completed my educational and clinical training at San Diego State University, where I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology and my Masters degree in Counseling. I began my clinical work providing individual therapy at a community counseling clinic in San Diego, California. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to expand my skill set by working at the Counseling and Psychological services of San Diego State University. I have provided psychotherapy primarily to young adults undergoing life transitions, academic stress, substance use concerns, relational problems, and questions of identity. Additionally, I conducted couples and group therapy, case management services, and crisis intervention and assessment. Prior to working in a therapy context, I spent time with teenagers and families in the church community through volunteering in youth ministry for several years. Currently, I am a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #136614, and I look forward to our time together.

Therapy with Jeremy

We as people understand life through our relationships, our experiences, and through the meaning we derive from those experiences. I aim to create an accepting and non-judgmental space for my clients, where we collaborate and explore the goals they wish to create for themselves. I create a space where they can share their story, reflect on the systems that have impacted them, acknowledge their power in resistance and resilience, and utilize their agency to rewrite a new narrative for their life. Together, I work with my clients to recognize their stuck patterns, cultivate strategies to enact change, and engage in actions to create a preferred way of living in accordance with one’s values.

My clinical work centers the multiple identities my client’s hold, as well as the values they deem important that can influence their future actions and how they cope with their presenting concern. I orient myself as a narrative therapist who is influenced by tools and skills from other modalities (EFT, DBT, SFBT).  I also integrate Brainspotting for deeper work from trauma and the emotional wounds so many of us struggle with.

When working with couples, I operate from an emotionally focused therapy (EFT) framework. I help you and your partner recognize the cycles of conflict and emotional disconnect you may experience, and how to turn toward each other in these times for healing, care and comfort.

I look forward to hearing your story, and the work we can do together.
